A story told from the estate

Berkmann Wine Cellars was delighted to welcome Marchese Anselmo Guerrieri Gonzaga to London for an exclusive masterclass celebrating the release of San Leonardo 2021.

Hearing the story directly from Anselmo offered guests a unique insight into the estate’s family heritage, the distinctive character of its vineyards and the philosophy behind its wines. His passion and personal perspective brought the story of San Leonardo to life, connecting generations of tradition with the evolution of one of Italy’s most celebrated fine wines.

From vineyard to glass

Guided by Marchese Anselmo Guerrieri Gonzaga, guests explored the distinctive terroir and meticulous winemaking approach that define San Leonardo, with a particular focus on the newly released 2021 vintage.

The masterclass featured a vertical tasting of six consecutive vintages, from 2016 to 2021. Tasting the wines side by side offered a fascinating opportunity to discover how individual growing seasons influence their expression, highlighting the elegance, freshness and structure that characterise this iconic Bordeaux-style blend from Trentino.

It was a compelling demonstration of San Leonardo’s ability to evolve with time while retaining the distinctive identity that has made it such an outstanding expression of its terroir.

An Exclusive Wine-Pairing Experience

The experience continued with an exclusive wine-pairing, where a carefully curated menu by Chef Larry Jayasekara provided the perfect setting to explore San Leonardo’s elegance, complexity and versatility at the table.

A particular highlight was the opportunity to enjoy San Leonardo 2000, offering a fascinating contrast to the newly released 2021 and demonstrating the remarkable ageing potential of the estate’s wines.

It was a memorable celebration of one of Italy’s most distinguished fine wine estates, bringing together heritage, craftsmanship and exceptional hospitality.
