One of Birmingham’s best known businessmen, he founded Churchill Vintners in 1989, and quickly established the company as the West Midlands leading independent wine merchant. The company gained a reputation for excellent quality, both in its wine selection and its reliable distribution.
His quiet, unruffled demeanour coupled with his courteous, sensible and efficient manner soon earned him both respect and success. In the West Midlands, he was the wine merchant most restaurateurs and hoteliers turned to when they were looking for quality in their wine selection and service.
After selling the company to Berkmann Wine Cellars in 2007, he stayed on as managing director until his retirement in April this year.
His untimely death has been a shock to all those who knew him as a kind and gentle man who will be sorely missed. He leaves a widow, Lindsay, and three children.
A service celebrating his life will be held on Monday 13th of July at 1pm in Saint Philip’s Cathedral Birmingham, Colmore Row, Birmingham B3 2QB.
