Chateau Ste. Michelle is the oldest winery in Washington state, with some of the most mature vineyards in the Columbia Valley, as well as control of an unrivalled proportion of that appellation’s plantings. The varietal Columbia Valley wines offer a consistent and well-priced expression of the Washington style: with cooler nights yet longe sunshine hours than California, exuberant fruit is balanced by crisp natural acidity. The single vineyard wines present more intense, focused renditions, each site being matched to the most suitable varieties. Horse Heaven is a freedraining volcanic slope where limited water availability keeps Sauvignon’s vegetation at bay; Canoe Ridge overlooksthe Columbia River, which moderates the temperature for even ripening in Chardonnay and Merlot. Cold Creek is the flagship vineyard, planted over thirty years ago; despite the name, the vineyard is dry and warm, giving Chardonnay and Cabernet of power and definition.
