Deutz is the epitome of understated excellence. Founded in 1838, the House is situated not in the conspicuously commercial centres of Reims or Epernay, but amongst the vineyards of one of the region’s greatest villages: Aÿ-Champagne. This sums up Deutz’s approach, in which style is always matched by substance.
The Brut Classic is a definitive non-vintage blend, with equal proportions of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier rounded out by a high proportion (20-40%) of reserve wines. The Brut Vintage expresses the depth and power of the Pinot Noir in and around Aÿ, with 30% Chardonnay for lift and finesse, while the Blanc de Blancs is all about purity and elegance, with 100% Chardonnay coming principally from the grands crus Avize and Mesnil-sur-Oger. The Rosés are both 100% Pinot Noir; the non-vintage is an ideal apéritif, while the vintage, from the historically fine 2002 harvest, has the weight to partner food. A trio of prestige cuvées represent the pinnacle of the House’s achievement in three styles: graceful Blanc de Blancs, compelling Pinot-dominated vintage, and rich, 100%-grand cru rosé.
